Today, we will be breaking down 5 fundamental similarities and 5 fundamental differences between the world’s #1 and #2 most popular religions.
Most Muslims and Christians do not realize that the two religions have the same foundation. They come from the same source, so to say. People see some similarities in worship, dress code, belief system, etc, but do not think as to why these similarities exist. We will start with the similarities between the faiths.
TOP FIVE (5) SIMILARITIES BETWEEN ISLAM & CHRISTIANITY
1. Same God
The God of
Islam and Christianity is the being who created Adam and Eve. The
“Entity” who chose from among his servants those who were best and
communicated with them and made them Prophets and Messengers. Unlike
Hinduism and some other religions, both Islam and Christianity believe
there is only one God. Some people get caught up on the word “Allah”
that Muslims use for God, however Allah is simply the Arabic word for
“One God” or “God”. If you were to open up any Bible written in Arabic,
you would find the word “Allah” in place of “God”.2. Concept of Prophets & Messengers
The idea that God / Allah communicated with humanity through chosen individuals who he relayed his message and commands to is part of both religions, Islam and Christianity. These Prophets were chosen men by God who were deserving of the noble title of being a Prophet. God communicated with these men through his Angel Gabriel. The list of prophets includes Adam, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Ismael, Moses, David, Solomon, Jesus, and according to Islamic belief, Muhammad, Peace Be Upon Them All.
3. Concept of Angels and the unseen world
The concept of the unseen world, the world of Angels and Demons exists in both Islam and Christianity. They both teach that God created Angels before He created man and that those Angels were created with one purpose, to obey and worship God. The Angels are different from us humans in that “free-will” as we know it is not in their nature. They are obedient to their Lord at all times, where we humans get to choose when we want to obey and when we want to disobey. The world of Demons / Jinn exists as well, in both Islam and Christianity, which are “evil” beings among the unseen world.
4. Sacred / Holy Scripture
Both, Christians and Muslims, have a Holy Book they believe is divinely inspired. The Bible was sent to Jesus (PBUH) and the Quran to Muhammad (PBUH). The idea that these books were sent by God / Allah to the chosen Prophets through the Chosen Angel are a part of both faiths. The majority of both, Muslims and Christians, believe that these books should be followed today just as they were meant to be followed when they were revealed.
5. Afterlife; Heaven and Hell
Last but not least, we have the belief in afterlife being among the similarities between Islam and Christianity. Both religions teach that once we die, we will either be granted eternal happiness in Paradise, Heaven, Jannah… Or eternal punishment in Hell, Jahannam. Both religions teach that this short life is only a test and that our final destination will be one of the two places mentioned above.
